This communion table was rescued from a local Methodist church that was due to be demolished. Made of solid oak it had been coated with a dark stain plus had ink damage to the top. Despite Ed’s best attempts to clean and strip it, in the end we felt it needed painted and now we are so glad we did! Look how wonderful it looks! It has the much sought after ‘Green Man’ carved as handles on both drawers, a symbol of rebirth, new growth and Spring that was adopted by early Christians to represent Easter and the resurrection, but is also associated with pagan mythology and May Day. Painted in Fusion Mineral Paint’s Midnight Blue, with highlights of gold and drawer inserts lined with Graham and Brown Superfresco floral paper, it has well and truly been given a second lease of life. The top has had a satin hard finish lacquer to protect the paintwork.
It would work beautifully in a hallway, with two drawers to hide away post or keep all those important things in. it would also make a stylish desk.
