Ht 135cm, W90, D29 at the base. The bottom enclosed cupboard is 47cm high, the lower glass doored section slightly higher than the top two for taller books.

These original barristers bookcases were designed to be sturdy and portable. They had two purposes - to be able to hold a large number of weighty books and be moved from place to place without damage occurring to their contents. Bookcases were designed with a series of self-contained shelving units that could be stacked on each other in a free-standing bookcase. They have an ingenious wooden swivelling mechanism that secures them together tightly. See the image. This particular set has a bottom cupboard with wooden doors. Then three glass door sections above, the lower one being slightly taller. Simply turn the wood to separate the four sections, the glass doors and runners are in remarkably good condition suggesting this bookcase has been cherished.

We estimate that these were made either early fifties or before - possibly pre-war. 1932 is written on the back

As we are passionate about extending the life of each piece of furniture it is inevitable that there will be some small imperfections. We believe these add to the unique quality of each piece. There are some small scuffs and marks commensurate with the age of the piece.
