A stunning walnut sideboard made in the mid 1950s by Beautility. This piece of furniture would be perfect for storing and displaying all manner of things including drinks and glasses. It has four drawers and two larger cupboards with shelves. The top section has glass shelves and another cupboard. The top unscrews for ease of transporting.

The paint is Ash by Fusion Mineral Paint with a pop of Azure inside the top drawer. The top has been hemp oiled to add a reflective sheen. The knobs have been repainted gold. Working touch and click lights included.

This piece is Ed’s favourite by far and therefore he spent far too long both working in it and telling me what to write here! With this magnificent sideboard he was particularly taken by skill and workmanship of retaining the patterns in the wood whilst crafting the concave curve of the doors. He also loved looking for patterns in the veneer, a bit like the magic eye books or the psychological inkblot test. Saying nothing!

When we can we prefer to leave as much of the original wood and design as possible in order to preserve the integrity of the piece. In this case some of the walnut veneer was too damaged to preserve, particularly the top. As we found it being used as a storage for tools that’s no surprise.

It is a heavy piece, but easily transportable when the top shelf unit and the drawers are removed. It is a commanding piece of furniture and we hope it finds a good home.

Beautility (what a great name) was a British Furniture company in business from the late 19th century until the late 20th century. Originally based in Bethnal Green and then later in Edmonton, the company specialised in dining furniture and sideboards ranging from Art Deco to the finer lines of the 60s and 70s.
